Dean Janet Lohmann named dean of students at Bowdoin
Janet Lohmann, Kenyon’s dean of students, has been named dean of students at Bowdoin College, effective July 1. She will continue in her current role at Kenyon through June. A national search for her successor will begin immediately.
Lohmann joined Kenyon as dean of students in July 2016. The appointment at Bowdoin represents a return home for Lohmann, who served there in various roles from 2003 to 2016. She will oversee the Associate and Assistant Deans of Student Affairs and the Advisor to the Judicial Board as well as the Directors of the Counseling Service, Health Services, and Title IX and Compliance.
“I have such affection for Kenyon — for both the students and my wonderful colleagues in Student Affairs,” Lohmann said. “While it’s difficult to leave, the decision to return to Maine is the right one for my family.”
“Janet and I have enjoyed a terrific partnership since she arrived at Kenyon, and I am grateful for her valuable work this year on behalf of our students. Thanks to Janet, we are in an even stronger place in Student Affairs. It’s not at all surprising that Bowdoin would want her back,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Meredith Bonham ’92.
In the coming weeks Bonham will appoint a search committee for the next dean of students, which will include representatives from Kenyon faculty, students and staff. The goal is to complete the search by the start of the 2017–18 academic year.
