Dean of Students to Retire

Office of Communications
February 12, 2016

Dear Kenyon Community,

It is with very mixed emotions that I announce the intention of Dean of Students Hank Toutain to retire from Kenyon at the end of the academic year. Hank led the Division of Student Affairs with distinction from 2009 to 2015 and has been a committed partner and trusted advisor since I accepted the position of vice president here more than a year ago. I will miss his wise counsel, intelligent insights and calm demeanor. However, I cannot begrudge his decision to spend quality time with his family, enjoy the pleasures of travel and good literature, and revel in a less stressful schedule. Hank has served Kenyon with integrity and purpose and great dedication to students, and he has decided the timing is right for the next chapter in his life.

We are in the process of composing the search committee, to include faculty, staff and student representation, and selecting a search firm to help build a pool of qualified candidates. Meanwhile, I welcome your suggestions of desirable qualities and specific nominations for Kenyon's next dean of students.

Best wishes,

Meredith Harper Bonham '92
Vice President for Student Affairs
