Acceptance Letters: Parents, college and letting go
Lynn Douglass
Hometown — New York
Lynn Matthews Douglass grew up in a few New York City suburbs before moving to Brooklyn for high school (way before the borough became the hub for hipsters). A graduate of Hamilton College, with a major in creative writing, Lynn was a staff writer at Mademoiselle Magazine, Working Woman Magazine and Liz Claiborne Inc. early in her career. She freelanced while raising her two children; her daughter is now a senior at Kenyon, and her son is a freshman at Trinity College. An empty brownstoner, Lynn writes for Forbes.com about auctions, art and sailing. Through her auction coverage, she reports on all kinds of sale items — from contemporary art to pieces of the moon. Lynn also freelances for Observer.com in the culture section.
For our first Family Weekend, I had envisioned cozy mother/daughter dinners, meeting her new friends, maybe sitting in on a class, or snuggling together under a blanket at the football game.
