A President's Playlist

November 14, 2016

After spending a Sunday afternoon as a guest DJ on Kenyon's radio station, WKCO, I wanted to share the songs I'm listening to in this time of change and uncertainty. Creating a playlist is a way for me to respond to events happening around us. (I then play it on endless loop for weeks on end.) This playlist is a reflection of the mixture of emotions that I have felt, and emotions that others have shared with me, during the past week — songs of resistance (“Wade In The Water,” “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around”), songs with anger (“All You Fascists,” “Fight the Power”), songs representing voices that need to be heard (“Deportee,” “Baltimore,” “Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)”), and ending with songs of hope and unity (“Make Them Hear You,” “This Land Is Your Land”). The list also has shout-outs to an artist who passed away recently, Leonard Cohen, and our first rock-and-roll Nobel Laureate, Bob Dylan. Enjoy!

P.S. For my thoughts on “Wade In The Water,” see my 2016 Commencement remarks.
