Novel Coronavirus Information for the Cox Center
Greetings Campus Community,
Recently, we are seeing an increasing number of news reports regarding the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in China. We send this email to assure the campus that we are closely monitoring updates from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and are in communication with our local infectious disease control partners. To date, CDC reports one domestic case in the state of Washington. While this virus is considered a serious public health concern, based on current information, the immediate health risk from 2019- nCoV to the general American public is considered low risk at this time.
As a residential college we recognize how easily and quickly diseases can spread. The CDC is currently recommending general infection prevention control strategies which are effective in the prevention and mitigation of many upper-respiratory illnesses (which are common this time of the year). If medical support is needed, please call the Cox Center at 740-427-5525 during business hours to schedule an appointment. During the evenings or weekends, medical support can be sought at Knox Community Hospital- Emergency Department and/or Urgent Care. Students who become ill should also communicate directly with their faculty and staff (e.g. coaches and campus employment supervisors) to ensure all course content and required assignments are completed during or immediately following their absence.
For students currently abroad or slated to go in the near future, please communicate directly with the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) if you have questions
