Class of 2016
Major — History
Hometown — Buffalo Grove, Illinois
Hello! I’m Claire Berman, a senior hailing from Buffalo Grove, Illinois. I’m a history major and art history minor with a focus on the United States. Besides writing for Quintessential Kenyon, I’m student manager of the Greenslade Special Collections & Archives in Olin Library, an editor at The Thrill, and a member of several Student Council subcommittees. I love Captain America, Top Chef and writing footnotes. My goal in life is to one day own a Pomeranian.
I think that I’m a bad person. Back in the day I used to roll my eyes at seniors opting out of club meetings or skipping articles I assigned them on the Thrillbecause they were working on comps. But I was so wrong, so naive. Comps are hard.
Dec. 1 looms heavily on my calendar. It is the beginning of the holiday season, as well as an unofficial start to when I need to start freaking out about finals. But more importantly, it is the day that (most of) my graduate school applications are due.
A few weeks ago, it was Family Weekend. Between writing the first chapter of my comps and all of my other stuff, I had one blissful weekend of relaxation with good food, shopping and, best of all: hugs. Seeing my parents is always a treat, and I thought that I would share their insight into Kenyon with all of you!
