I had a tortoise in my middle school and high school years, and he really shaped me as a person (he now lives with my aunt). I read books, sing songs, play trombone, peal bells, and eat a whole lot of split pea soup.
There is still so much work to be done about gun violence in this country. But in the charged air that lies between the end of a piece of music and the beginning of quiet, I felt a moment of connection. It was comforting to remember that, in wake of so much senseless violence, those moments exist too.
One of the original purposes of Kenyon was to create a tightly knit community of scholars in the wilderness, and the sentiment still rings true. We’re all here, on our one campus in Gambier, living and learning side by side with one another.
I’ve accumulated a lot of stuff over the four years I’ve spent on this campus, and my apartment puts on display the things I’ve found and brought with me along the way.
Books like “The Fault in Our Stars” reignited my interest in reading for pleasure in high school. Six years later, I’m glad to still be reading engaging, challenging texts.
