Class of 2015
Major — English, Creative Writing
Hometown — Lincoln University, PA
Lover of knitting, cats, and hot baths, I spent most of my childhood pretending to be British and watching and reading Harry Potter at the same time to see if I could finish reading first. Now I'm cool.
Being in a bad mood in college is hard because most of the things that would usually cheer you up, like your dogs and your full kitchen, are hundreds of miles away at home. On Saturday night, I was in a bad mood, and it was hard.
Since college-visiting-oh-my-god-which-one-should-I-go-to-please-somebody-help season is almost over, I thought I'd start focusing on those lucky students who have already decided on Kenyon. When I made the decision to come here, there was a long period of excitement followed by a long period of panic. When you're packing for college as a first year, you have no idea of what things you will actually need (lots of storage) and what things you will never need ever (Harry Potter wands). For this first installment, I thought I'd focus on shoes. At Kenyon, you do allllooottt of walking, so read on to find out exactly what you need!
Today has just been one of those long no good very bad days and I almost threw a tantrum just now because I accidentally deleted my "Applications" folder so here's a cat.
It goes without saying that Kenyon is a small school. While the music scene is very present, Gambier, Ohio doesn't attract the big names that you would normally get at a larger state school. The beauty of this, however, is that it allows you to discover new bands that you never even knew you liked! Last year, The Lumineers came (this was before "Ho Hey" took off). This past week, it was Lake Street Dive.
The good thing about Gambier being so small is that all your professors live a short walk away. So when they ask "Hey, instead of class on Friday, do you want to all come to my house and make pizza?" you can enthusiastically say yes. Instead of a day sitting under hot lights taking picture after picture, my stop motion animation class spent two hours making pizza, looking at pig guts, and watching Peter and the Wolf with our professor.
